1. Proper maintenance of a diesel engine water pump, especially preventive maintenance, is the easiest and most economical form of maintenance. It is therefore the key to extending service life and reducing operating costs. Daily maintenance can be carried out as follows: check the fuel level in the tank, observe the amount of fuel in the tank, and top up as required.

2. Check the oil level in the oil sump: observe whether the oil level reaches the mark on the dipstick. If it is insufficient, add oil to the specified level, but do not exceed the upper limit on the dipstick.

3. Check the oil level of the fuel injection pump governor: if it has not reached the specified mark, add engine oil (some injection pump governors do not have a dipstick, in which case this step may be omitted).

4. Check whether there is sufficient lubricating grease at the water pump grease point: remove the grease nipple on the diesel engine circulating water pump and check whether there is sufficient lubricating grease inside. If not, use a grease gun to inject enough grease.

5. Check whether there is enough water in the radiator: if the water level is low, replenish it in time. The added water should be clean fresh water, such as tap water or clean river water. If groundwater is used directly, scale can easily form in the radiator, affecting cooling performance and causing faults. Therefore, groundwater may only be used after softening. In northern regions (where ambient temperature is below 0°C), antifreeze with an appropriate freezing point must be used according to the local minimum temperature.

6. Check the injection pump drive coupling disc: check whether the connecting bolts are loose. If they are loose, re-adjust the fuel injection advance angle and tighten the connecting bolts.

7. Clean the exterior of the diesel engine and its auxiliary equipment: use a dry cloth or a rag soaked in diesel to wipe oil stains, water and dust from the surfaces of the engine body, turbocharger, cylinder head cover, air cleaner and other components; wipe or blow off dust from the surfaces of the charging alternator, radiator, fan and other components with compressed air.
